Bo Zhao, MD, PhD

Dr. Bo Zhao earned his medical degree from Dalian Medical University, China. He then pursued a Master of Medical Science degree, followed by a Ph.D. in cancer biology. He went on to conduct postdoctoral research in DNA mutagenesis at the University of Kentucky and tumorigenesis at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Zhao completed his training in Internal Medicine at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, New Jersey, and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. Prior to joining Virginia Oncology Associates, Dr. Zhao worked as a clinical assistant professor at the University Hospitals of Cleveland Seidman Cancer Center (Firelands satellite), where he served as the co-chair of the cancer committee. Dr. Zhao is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His interests are in immuno-oncology, targeted therapy, and developmental therapeutics. Dr. Zhao's research has been published in many peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Zhao is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and he is the current Vice President of the Chinese American Hematologist and Oncologist Network (CAHON). During his free time, Dr. Zhao enjoys spending time with family, camping, fishing, and traveling. He is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
